Jack Parsons

The one figure who holds both worlds at full documentation: co-founder of American rocketry and head of a Thelemic lodge, in the same life.¹²³⁴⁵

Documented connection

Parsons was introduced to the O.T.O. in 1939, initiated in 1941, and in 1942 made head of Agapé Lodge No. 2 at Crowley’s own instruction; he addressed Crowley as “Most Beloved Father,” signed “Thy son, John,” and funded the Order and Crowley personally through Karl Germer. Crowley called him “the most valued member of the whole Order, with no exception!” In the other world, Parsons — with Edward Forman and Frank Malina under Theodore von Kármán — formed the Caltech GALCIT Rocket Research Group (1934), which became the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (1943); he co-founded Aerojet (1942) and invented the first castable composite solid rocket propellant. The two worlds were never separate for him: the co-founder Fritz Zwicky recorded that Parsons recited Crowley’s “Hymn to Pan” before rocket tests, and von Kármán called him “a delightful screwball” who “loved to recite pagan poetry to the sky.” In 1944 he was forced out of Aerojet/JPL — the Caltech-linked employees “would only agree to the sale on the condition that Parsons and Forman were removed… viewing their occult activities as disreputable.” In 1945 L. Ron Hubbard moved into his house; in 1946 they conducted the Babalon Working.

Asserted intent — firewalled

That Crowley “programmed” or directed Parsons as an American vessel of the New Aeon is not documented. The documented relationship is patronage, mentorship, and disagreement — Crowley criticized Parsons’s freelancing as “beyond his grade.” The occult-rocketry synthesis is a documented life, not a documented plot.

Held-open

• Parsons’s magical motto is recorded in two Latin variants — “Thelema Obtentum Prodeumque Delta” (Wikipedia) and “Thelema Obtentum Procedero Amoris Nuptiae” (Pendle) — both summing to 210. Both kept.
• Popular sources overstate him as “NASA’s founder”; NASA did not exist until 1958. The accurate claim is co-founder of JPL and Aerojet.
• The claim that Parsons sited JPL near Devil’s Gate as a “portal to Hell” is hedged “supposedly” in its own sourcing; kept open.

Role in the thesis

The crown node of the Crowley-in-America rail: proof that the occult and the technical-state lattices were, in at least one documented life, the same people — without any of it licensing the directed-project reading the rail exists to test.
