Theosophical Society

The institution the esoteric idiom runs through — the body that the four-idiom nodes (Besant, Bailey, the world-teacher) all descend into or break away from.¹²³

Documented connection

The Theosophical Society was founded in New York City on 17 November 1875 by Helena Blavatsky, Colonel Henry Steel Olcott (its first President), and William Quan Judge, with sixteen others. It declared three Objects — universal brotherhood “without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or color”; the comparative study of religion, philosophy, and science; and the investigation of “unexplained laws of nature and the powers latent in humanity.” The founders moved the work to India, taking up residence at Adyar, Madras, on 19 December 1882; the Adyar Library followed in 1886. From Adyar the Society became the institutional stage for the events the articulation rail already documents: Leadbeater’s 1909 identification of Krishnamurti, Besant’s Order of the Star, and the three schisms that carried theosophy outward — Judge (the 1895 American split), Steiner (out to found Anthroposophy, 1913), and Bailey (out to the Lucis Trust, 1920).

Asserted intent — firewalled

That the Masters/Mahatmas Blavatsky named were real adepts steering human evolution is her own attributed doctrine, not a documented fact — the theosophical form of the elect-administering claim, quarantined exactly as the Crowley rail quarantines the “Secret Chiefs.” The Society is a documented institution; the cosmic hierarchy it taught is a belief it held, held here as such.

Role in the thesis

The hub of the esoteric idiom: not a lineage that transmits a program down a chain, but an institution people joined and then left — a nucleus that kept fissioning. The recurrence of the managed-child claim across Besant, Steiner, and Bailey is documented; that it was directed from one center is exactly what the schisms disprove.
